Consumo cinematográfico en Uruguay. Sobre gustos y valoración social del cine nacional
Abstract
ABSTRACT: This article explores cultural taste and social value in the recent Uruguayan cinema: the mechanisms of legitimation of the Uruguayan film, the value of traditional cultural expressions such as literature in relation to the audiovisual, the defining criteria of “good taste” and the value of international distinction mechanisms. This research is based on a qualitative and quantitative approach. The qualitative approach involves a 15 films sample (the ones with greater audiences; greater submission to festivals and much more awards) published on daily or weekly printed media; a content analysis from 1.052 records of comments from cinephiles, published on a specialized cultural agenda in an Uruguayan web, regarding the same 15 films sample. The quantitative approach involves a 2.700 cases national survey on Imaginaries and Cultural Consumption in Uruguay (2014). This article is part of a longer project, which is being developed by a research group named “Innovative Creative Industries” (2010-2014) from the “Facultad de Información y Comunicación” at the Universidad de la República (Udelar), in Uruguay.
