Abstract

This paper presents part of the conceptual foundations of an ongoing research project. The author discusses some of the issues concerning the use of computer technologies in relation to knowledge acquisition processes in schools, specifically that of simulation systems, from a sociocultural perspective and with a critical pedagogy framework. He emphasizes the need for articulation of the use of computer resources in the education process with pedagogical strategies and socio cultural contexts, and concludes with the idea that participation in the construction of realities through computer simulations could serve as a metaphor for the participative construction of realities best suited for the democratic and equalitarian ends of education.
