Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the analysis of how George W. Bush tried to justify the unjustifiable war against Iraq. One of the main questions that guides this on going research on the argumentative and rhetorical strategies that George Bush used in his speeches on the need of war against Iraq is: why do the American people believe in the explanations that Bush provides them? One of the main objectives is to identify and show the procedures that Bush uses in the construction of social reality. The analysis focuses in the identification of the strategies that Bush uses in order to build up the credibility of his speeches. In other words what are the ideological, political and cultural values that he appeals to in order to make his addresses believe in what he says.
