Contra la identidad

  • Roberto Flores

Abstract

A polemic text that meditates on the assumptions and positions of Mexican anthropology facing the celebration of the Fifth Centennial of the "Discovery" of the New Work. The author criticizes an apparent solution to the problem of national identity through the notion of "mestizaje" or ethnic hybridization. He elaborates an alternative concept, identification, understood as a process and not as a state. In this process of identification, social creativity and collective imaginary play a central role.
