La ciencia y los científicos a través de la mirada de los jóvenes universitarios

Abstract

Science and scientists through the eyes of university students. This article is part of a broader research project on the social representations of science shared by college students who attend the University of Guadalajara in México. Preliminary results are presented on the perceptions and images of science and scientists that emerge from the written responses of 28 subjects obtained through an associative-response questionnaire. A stereotyped image of the scientist persists among them, possibly originating in the media, and in general terms science is described with language that resembles that of certain definitions in dictionaries and encyclopedias, an indication that possibly formal education is an important reference source.
