Abstract

In this article I’ll will analyze several cases of fake identities that take place in the writing medium. Which is the relation between writing and the identity of the sender of a written message? Usually it is believed that hand writing keeps an indicial value that can reveal aspect of the personality of its writer. But what happens with the writing produced by means of a machine? What relation does it keep with the identity of its sender? Jacques Derrida underlined how absence was one of the main characteristics of writing (absence of the sender, absence of the receiver). This absence turns writing in a medium particularly apt for all sorts of verbal disguises. Here we will analyze some of them extracted from graphical writing as well as from digital writing (chats, blogs, virtual worlds). We will also speculate about the ontological status of the different signers of these texts.
