Abstract

It presents a history of media studies related to aspects of subjectivity, thus a link with psychoanalysis is established, but in a shed where it takes full account of social and historical aspects. It is also considered that this link is based on an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach where knowledge from different sources –political, social, economical, etc.– are involved, and those determine the specific characteristics of the media. It seeks to answer if the media provide, alongside with other institutions such as families, the process of psychosocial subject formation which every society requires for its maintenance and reproduction. In this framework the role of emotions is of great importance.
