Abstract

Is there a connection between Subalternity Studies, Poscolonial Studies and Decolonial Option? Can these perspectives help us reflect on popular culture? Is it accurate and useful to continue talking about Latin American popular culture today? In order to begin answering these wide questions, we offer a reflection on subalternity and popular culture, organized in three complementary dimensions: subalternity and conflict; subalternity and methapor; subalternity and coloniality. In this context, we strongly stand for the concept of “popular” as a way to better understand Latin American culture.
