Abstract

This article examines the implications of the decline of the category / notion of social class in social science studies and official use. Against the grain, it is interrogated by the scope of use of such notions as subaltern, subaltern classes, subaltern groups, notions of great expansion in cultural studies and contemporary Latin American thought. In a second moment, approaches an use forgotten: The José María Aricó use. Finally, a short story with the intention of showing the limits of the category in terms of political language is proposed.
